about

Without taking away the freedom of the listener to decide on where the music comes from and where it takes them, I offer this as an album of “Living” music: all improvised in late night recording sessions after putting my daughter to bed. Inspiration often came from melodies I would make up for her to lull her to sleep, or sounds she would make.
In step with documenting the development of our children: their playful manners, discovery of “mouth sounds” before actual language, I wanted to document some of my earliest phrases, forms, and sounds.
In truth I don’t think this album would exist if not for my daughter’s birth in May of 2022 . . . and the gentle push from my brother-in-sound, Claude Aldous, to pick up the saxophone just a month or so before.
I came to the alto saxophone from years as a vocalist and sound-making oddity and was excited at the prospect of extending my voice through this new vehicle for sound . . . And with that, this album is rooted in the documentation of development, curiosity, playfulness and, well . . . Catharsis.
